Eagles Insider Points Out Key Factor Bears Fans Miss About Nick Foles

-

Nick Foles is the newest quarterback of the Chicago Bears. This 30-year old might have one of the most fascinating careers in NFL history. A rising start in 2013 after a Pro Bowl season, he fell apart to a point where he contemplated retirement at the end of 2015. He stayed the course, ended up back in Philadelphia in 2017, wins the Super Bowl. After guiding the Eagles back to the playoffs again in 2018, he earns a big payday from Jacksonville where he promptly goes 0-4, breaking his collarbone in the process.

Now he’s a Bear after GM Ryan Pace traded a 4th round pick for him. This reunites him with Matt Nagy who has known him since he was drafted back in 2012. Hopes are high that he can push Mitch Trubisky for the starting job. Nevertheless, many fans aren’t happy about the move. They feel it was a weak attempt by the team to fix the problem. What exactly does Foles offer?

Well aside from his experience and understanding how to read defenses, Eagles beat writer Elliott Shorr-Parks pointed something else out during an interview with Laurence Holmes on 670 The Score.

“To me what really tells the type of player Nick Foles is is he was 11-2 with the Eagles in primetime games. That’s Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night, playoffs, all that stuff. So when the lights were bright and the Eagles needed a win, Foles almost always got it for them.”

Nick Foles is the big game player the Bears need

This is a significant stat that can’t be overstated. Why? While Foles is 11-2 in primetime, Trubisky sits at 5-6. This includes the loss to Foles in the playoffs. Trubisky has rarely ever played his best when the lights were on. Don’t believe it? Here’s his stat line for the five wins he has. Remember. These are for the wins.

  • 82.5 rating

If not for his big games against the hopeless Redskins and the checked-out Cowboys last year, it would’ve looked a lot worse. Whenever he ran into well-prepared teams, it got ugly as the games went on. Foles has shown time and again that he tends to deliver his best when the pressure is highest. The Bears don’t need him to be great all the time. Just when they need him to be.

Sounds like their kind of guy.
