Belief in NFL Circles on Fate of Mitch Trubisky Has Drastically Shifted

-

Coming into this month, a lot of NFL sources believed the Chicago Bears would stick by their word from back in January. GM Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy still believed in Mitch Trubisky. They want him to succeed and think he still can. He’ll get an opportunity to prove it in 2020, but the team intends on finding some sort of insurance policy if he fails. A veteran bargain who can serve as a backup but step in as a starter if necessary.

Basically what the Tennessee Titans did with Ryan Tannehill.

However, according to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, there is a growing sentiment that the Bears may not be content with just competition. They could be wide open to just replacing Trubisky outright.

“There’s a difference between preliminary talks and intense negotiations. And for now, it’s difficult to determine the intensity of the Bears’ search down multiple roads. Still, it’s evident that finding a veteran quarterback, preferably with significant experience, is a major focus.

Publicly, the Halas Hall “Help Wanted” ad may list this as a backup gig. But it has been made very clear throughout league circles there is potential for upward mobility. Great potential. And possibly very quickly.”

Mitch Trubisky best hope the market breaks his way

Right now the rumors around the NFL paint a clear picture. The Bears are involved in three quarterbacks. Free agent Tedd Bridgewater, Nick Foles of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Andy Dalton of the Cincinnati Bengals. The latter two are trade candidates. Word is they’re hot on the trail of Bridgewater and want to sign him. This would indicate they don’t mind spending the necessary money.

Thus far he’s held off with many believing he is waiting to see where Tom Brady lands and if that’s Tampa Bay. If not, then Bridgewater would have a chance to return home to Florida for an offensively stacked team.

Trubisky better hope it happens that way. If Bridgewater were to sign in Chicago, there is likely no way a competition happens. It will be his job. However, acquisitions of either Foles or Dalton would be much closer to the Tannehill model, at least giving Trubisky a chance to hand onto his spot.
