Bears Eyeing Chicago-Native QB Who Is Setting Records and Winning Titles

-

By now most people are acquainted with the top quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL draft. Plenty of speculation abounds on whether the Chicago Bears could take one. Given their current situation, it’s a distinct possibility. That said, they aren’t likely to ignore undrafted free agency either. While not usually a hotbed for quarterback talent, it’s delivered some notable names in the past. Nobody should begrudge the Bears for doing their homework.

It would appear they’ve been active with the smaller schools lately. Attending pro days that feature notable FCS, Division II, and Division III passers to see if anybody stands out. Christian Shanafelt of NFL Draft Bible revealed that they were present at the Northern Illinois pro day. An event that featured one of the best passers in the history of Division III college football.

His name is Broc Rutter.

Chicago Bears have good reasons to like Rutter

So remember Jimmy Garoppolo and how he was such a great story coming out of Eastern Illinois? A native of Arlington Heights, homegrown in the shadow of Chicago. Well, Rutter has built a similar reputation for himself. Hailing from Naperville, Illinois, he’s become one of the most notable names on the sleeper circuit of 2020 quarterback. This past year was one of the greatest passing clinics a player has ever put up at any level.

Rutter steered North Central College to a 14-1 record, throwing for 4,591 yards with 56 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He completed over 70% of his passes. The Cardinals ended up winning the Division III national championship, decisively crushing powerhouse Wisconsin-Whitewater 41-14. The first championship in school history. Talk about making a statement.

He wasn’t done though. Rutter then attended the Hula Bowl in Hawaii. The only D-III player to make the event. There he showcased his skill by throwing the only touchdown pass of the day for either team in a 23-7 loss. Considering he was going against a defense coached by Rex Ryan? That’s pretty impressive.

At 6’2 he has solid size and seems to showcase a decent arm, able to improv when needed and throw accurately down the field. Nobody is saying he’s the ultimate hidden gem, but this is definitely a player the Bears should look to bring in for training camp.
