During a radio segment on 670 The Score Wednesday afternoon, Theo Epstein announced that the Cubs are calling up Robel Garcia from Triple-A.
The move hasn’t officially been made, but it will be done prior to tonight’s game in Pittsburgh. Right-handed reliever Dillon Maples will be optioned to make room for Garcia on the roster.
Garcia, 26, has come out of nowhere this season. The switch-hitter is slashing .285/.364/.594 in 72 games at Double-A and Triple-A combined. With the Iowa Cubs, Garcia has hit 15 home runs and has posted a .981 OPS in 50 games.
Finally, the move Cubs fans wanted for several weeks is coming.
But that doesn’t mean more won’t be coming.
The Cubs are currently one game back of the Brewers for first place in the division.
