…Happy April Fools’ Day, or whatever. I don’t know, the Cubs just suck right now. I started writing this right when Kyle Hendricks stuck his glove out on what should have been an inning-ending double play in the fifth inning. A run scored and then David Bote threw the ball away, adding another run to the Braves lead. I mean, Bote literally threw the ball to no one and that wasn’t even the worst play of the night. That went to Mark Zagunis, who started the game by dropping a ball in foul territory and the very next pitch was a home run.
The Cubs are losing 7-0 right now and hey, at least the bullpen gets a day off of not getting blamed for a loss. The defense was awful with Zagunis looking like he’s never played the outfield before and Javier Baez threw a ball away in the first inning that made things worse too.
This is the second bad play by Zagunis in the first inning. Remember, he dropped a foul ball and this should have been another out.

So far, the Cubs have made five errors. Last time they did that was in 2012, year one of the rebuild.
the last time the #Cubs had 5 errors in a game – August 10, 2012 – those errors were made by Welington Castillo, Starlin Castro, Brett Jackson, Anthony Rizzo & Josh Vitters

edit: I was about to post this and then Kris Bryant made the sixth error of the game for the Cubs. lol
Kyle Hendricks is never going to throw hard, but 86mph and missing with your change up right in the heart of the strike zone isn’t going to cut it.

I’m obviously joking about the season being over, but I can’t imagine a worse start after winning on Opening Day. The starting pitching has been bad. The bullpen has blown two games and in the fourth game the defense was atrocious.

Day off on Tuesday. Talk about needing a reset.
Hey, I guess it could be worse.
Miguel Andujar has a small labrum tear in his right shoulder. He will be treated conservatively for two weeks, but season-ending surgery is on the table.
