Is Manny Machado’s Short Visit With The Yankees A Good Or Bad Sign For The White Sox?

-

Today Manny Machado continued his free agent tour by visiting the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Of the six teams Manny is visiting with (White Sox, Yankees, Phillies, 3 mystery teams), the Yankees are speculated to be his preferred destination by almost everyone in the national media.

So when reports came out just recently that he only spent 90 minutes with the front office, White Sox fans wasted no time in speculating what it could mean.

While on his visit of Chicago with the White Sox, Machado spent the entire day with Rick Hahn, Rick Renteria, and the rest of the front office. He arrived just before 2pm and ended the day with a tour of the city and dinner at Gibson’s steakhouse long after the sun had gone down.

His brief Yankee visit could mean 2 things: the first being that he was not enamored with whatever offer they put on the table, whether it be the amount of years or money.

It could also have been a love at first sight type of visit for him. Brian Cashman could have quickly sold him on the history of the team, the level the team is already playing at, write up an offer sheet, tell him to think it over, and conclude the meeting.

Whether good or bad, it is still interesting all the same. Usually on these meetings, the player goes on a tour of the city to look at possible homes, schools, and entertainment like he did with the White Sox. It doesn’t sound like he’s doing that in New York. Could Chicago currently have the best offer on the table? We won’t know until all of Machado’s meetings are wrapped up. Next on his schedule is Philadelphia tomorrow. By week’s end, we should have a clearer picture of where the superstar will land.
