It has been a busy few years for Las Vegas Triple-A team president Don Logan. Logan has been overseeing the building of a new home stadium while also recently securing an affiliate agreement with the Oakland Athletics. His hard work has earned him the 2018 PCL Executive of the Year award.
The executive of the year award is voted on annually by the league’s 16-member clubs and awarded to the PCL’s top club executive. It is Logan’s third time winning the honor (1992, 1998) since he joined the Las Vegas professional baseball franchise 35 years ago. The team, which is set to announce it’s new namesake this Saturday, was formerly the Stars and the 51s.
“This award is truly deserved as Don is a huge contributor to the success not just of the 51s but also that of the PCL,” PCL President Branch B. Rickey said in a statement. “Executives across our league value his instincts and unique insights. He is a catalyst for dynamic thinking everywhere he is involved in the challenges of sports business.”
Some of Logan’s achievements include landing the affiliate deal with the Athletics and securing the naming rights — in conjunction with The Howard Hughes Corporation — to build a new state-of-the-art Triple-A baseball stadium in October 2017. He worked on this stadium project for two decades. The Las Vegas Ballpark will be a 10,000-fan capacity baseball stadium. It is being built on eight acres of land in Downtown Summerlin and is set to finish construction in March 2019.
The naming of the Las Vegas triple-A team is expected to take place Saturday to kick off the MLB Winter Meetings that start Sunday and go through Thursday. While many names were offered up by fans when the team opened up the naming ideas to the public, rumors have it the team will be named the Las Vegas Aviators, a reference to team owner Howard Hughes Corp’s founder. Howard Hughes was himself an aviator.
