This Nick Foles Statement About Matt Nagy Is Damning

-

Matt Nagy has insisted time and time again that the offense will come around. Just be patient. Hey, they’re still winning games right? Hang in there. It will all be okay. Except here’s the thing. Chicago Bears fans have heard this song and dance way too many times over the years to believe a word that comes out of his mouth at this point. Even his quarterbacks like Nick Foles can’t be taken seriously defending him.

Want reality? Here it is. Nagy’s offenses have ranked 21st, 29th, and 29th in his three seasons so far as head coach/offensive coordinator in Chicago. That third ranking is likely to drop even further after what probably was the single-most atrocious four quarters of offensive coaching this franchise has seen in a long time.

That is definitely saying something.

Once again his offense looked completely lifeless in the face of a well-coached, well-prepared defense. It was a masterclass in ineptitude from overthrown passes to ill-timed penalties, horrible personnel usage, and bad clock management. It was everything Nagy had become known all coming to light in less than 60 minutes of football.

The Bears offense mustered just three points in the game and were blanked in the 3rd quarter for the sixth time in seven games. All of this, let’s remember, with a new quarterback under center. It isn’t Mitch Trubisky anymore. It’s Nick Foles. Yet the same exact problems persist. When the supposed primary issue is addressed and nothing changes? That indicates the problem is somewhere else.

The only one left to point the finger at is Nagy.

Nick Foles made a shocking revelation about Nagy

Where it gets really bad is in what was revealed during the Monday Night Football broadcast. Former Bears quarterback Brian Griese says the ESPN crew spoke to Foles about the offense and Nagy’s play calling during games. It was then the veteran revealed a startling fact that paints an ugly picture of the head coach.

That is as damning a revelation as one could hear about a supposed offensive guru. Stuff like that is supposed to be basic knowledge for offensive coordinators. Understanding situations and the right plays to call. This demonstrates a reality many have felt about Nagy for some time now.

He has no grasp of running an offense properly.

Too often it feels like he calls plays just for the sake of calling them. There’s no sense of reasoning behind them. It’s why the Bears can almost never find a flow or rhythm. Even when they do, Nagy has to suddenly call for massive substitutions. This can lead to a loss of momentum and too often a penalty or forced timeout.

Nick Foles has played for some really good offensive play callers in his career. So he knows bad when he sees it. He’ll never throw his head coach under the bus in public but one can imagine he’s starting to get frustrated. To say nothing of the rest of the team. Will Nagy ever reach the same realization.

Nobody can say.
