The Scottsdale Police Department has located a former MLB pitcher accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend Friday evening.
When officers arrived they were informed that a suspect may still be inside the residence. A Scottsdale PD SWAT team was called out to assist in a possible barricade situation.
Once they made their way inside they located a woman later identified as 34-year-old Danielle Breed who had been killed.
Haeger was located deceased along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at approximately 4 p.m. from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Haeger spent parts of five years pitching MLB, starting his career with the White Sox in 2006, and went on to play for the Padres and Dodgers as well. Haeger also played in the minors for the Mariners and Red Sox.
Earlier in January, Haeger was named the pitching coach for the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate for the Cubs. He never served under that role, as Minor League Baseball was canceled for the 2020 season.
