It’s crazy how, for the most part, pitchers can have pinpoint control throwing a ball to the plate but once they have to throw to a base they look like they’ve never thrown a baseball before.
This throw by Cubs reliever Jason Adam pretty much summed up Thursday’s 6-2 loss against the Pirates. He got a soft ground ball hit to him and tried to start a 1-6-3 double play. Instead, Adam threw the ball to Jason Kipnis, who was standing behind and to the left of Javier Báez on the infield dirt.
Yeah, just a bit outside.
The Cubs finished their road trip with a 5-5 record, but man was Thursday’s loss brutal.
The team left a total of nine runners on base and that included only scoring one run in the third inning after having runners at second and third with no outs. Later in the game the Cubs once again failed to score with the bases loaded when they only had one out.
Ian Happ also left the game early in the fourth after foul ball bounced off his right eye. And you know things are frustrating when Kris Bryant, the nicest dude in baseball, gets mad.
The first-place Cubs will now head back to Chicago, where they’ll host a five-game series against the Cardinals starting Friday.
