Mitch Trubisky Reportedly Aced His Biggest Test Yet At Bears Camp

-

Separation between Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles hasn’t happened through two weeks of Chicago Bears training camp. Should people be surprised? Not really. No minicamps, OTAs, or preseason have made this one of the most unique quarterback competitions in history. Matt Nagy and the coaching staff have so little time to assess both players and make a decision.

However, there are certain moments that could define the battle. The biggest is probably the 11-on-11 drills the team has conducted in live game scenarios. Last week Foles had his opportunity, playing with the #1 offense against the #1 defense. It was a two-minute situation and he had to score. The veteran ended up going 6-of-7 on the drive and ended it with a touchdown.

Trubisky’s opportunity would come the following week. That moment arrived Tuesday. While Nagy didn’t divulge much information, it sounds like the 26-year old rose to the occasion.

Mitch Trubisky at least hasn’t folded his tent

Context is always key in these situations. It’s worth mentioning Trubisky faced a defense that didn’t have three key players on the field in Akiem Hicks, Robert Quinn, and Eddie Goldman. He also had Allen Robinson to throw to. A luxury Foles did not enjoy last week due to an ankle injury. So are both drives considered equal? That’s for the coaches to decide.

Still, it’s nice to see Trubisky has met the challenge the Bears put forth when they traded for Foles back in March. He could’ve easily folded his tent. Instead, he worked harder than ever to get himself ready and has looked “great” according to multiple people around the team. Of course, looking great in camp doesn’t always equate to results on the field.

Was this performance enough to give him the inside lane in this competition? Only Nagy knows the answer to that question.
