White Sox DFA Another Pitcher

-

For some reason the White Sox had the bright idea of relying on right-handed pitcher Drew Anderson to pitch a few innings on Saturday and it came to no one’s surprise that he lived up to his 7+ career ERA in the majors.

After getting three quick outs in the third, Anderson was shelled by Cleveland in Saturday’s 7-1 White Sox loss, as the right-hander surrendered six runs while only getting one out in the fourth inning.

It wasn’t pretty, considering Anderson hadn’t really shown much effectiveness in summer camp and it was evident he started to lose it before things got really ugly in the fourth. However, the White Sox were apparently dead set on having Anderson pitch multiple innings.

A costly decision made by the team and extremely questionable when you consider Anderson’s lack of success against MLB hitting. Not to mention the White Sox had plenty of other relievers available to them as well.

Anyway, it seems like this will be Anderson’s first and lost shot with the White Sox, as he was DFA’d on Sunday. The team has called up right-handed reliever José Ruiz to replace Anderson in the bullpen.

Ruiz has a career 5.36 ERA and 1.96 WHIP in 45.1 innings with the White Sox.
