Two More White Sox Players Get Hurt, Leave Game Against Tigers

-

No team ever wants to make excuses and it’s not like no other team deals with injuries, but holy shit the White Sox can’t catch a break.

Even when there is good news, Tim Anderson and Edwin Encarnación should be back Tuesday, the White Sox are hit with a few more injury concerns. Yet, these might be self-inflicted, especially in the case of Leury García, who’s already filling in for the injured Nick Madrigal at second base.

During Monday’s 5-1 loss to the Tigers, García reached on an infield single in the seventh inning, but in doing so he injured his left hand.

For the 1 millionth time, stop sliding head-first into first base. There are situations where avoiding a tag or a collision may warrant a head-first slide into the bag, but for the most part it’s dumb.

García was checked out by the team trainer and did stay in after a pitching change, but he was eventually pulled and had an x-ray taken on his thumb.

In the following inning José Abreu landed awkwardly on first base and then he was taken out of the game. Abreu and García will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.

As of now, neither incident appears to be a major concern.

So far this season the White Sox have had Eloy Jiménez, Encarnación, Anderson and Madrigal miss games because of an injury, while Nomar Mazara missed time after testing positive for COVID-19 right before Opening Day. The team has also placed two relievers on the injured list, Jimmy Lambert and Aaron Bummer, and have already lost Reynaldo López and Carlos Rodón from their starting rotation with no clear timetable for either of their returns.

Oh and before the season started, Michael Kopech opted out of playing in 2020.

The injuries are starting to take their toll on the White Sox, who are hoping they’re not going to be down another two players after Monday’s loss that put them at 8-9 this season.
