Mitch Trubisky Took It To Nick Foles In Second Padded Practice

Mitch Trubisky vs. Nick Foles is pretty much unfolding like many expected it would. The former seems to have more chemistry with his receivers through the first few practices while the latter has seemed a bit off at times. Trubisky definitely has greater physical talent but Foles is smarter and more efficient in his operation.

So far, it seems the two have traded rounds in their bout for the starting job, which is why the most popular betting apps are somewhat contrasting in their predictions for the Bears in 2020.

Foles grabbed an early lead after a steady first padded practice on Monday. Trubisky had the ugly moment of the day with a bad throw that should’ve been intercepted by Deon Bush. By the sound of things, it was a different story on Tuesday. Trubisky arrived on the field ready to play and made some of his best throws of camp so far according to Adam Hoge of NBC Sports.

“An early back-shoulder throw to Cole Kmet hit the tight end in the hands near the front pylon, but fell incomplete. It was a good ball though. Trubisky also hit Allen Robinson on a good fade in what was a heavy red zone practice. The quarterback seems to be developing good chemistry with new tight end Jimmy Graham, allowing the athletic pass catcher to high-point the football in tight spaces.

There were no obvious bad mistakes by Trubisky Tuesday, but there’s still room to improve when it comes to accuracy.”

Mitch Trubisky out-dueled Foles but it’s only just begun

This is a good thing for Trubisky. Strong practices were few and far between for him last year. To be able to avoid any major mistakes against a defense of this caliber for an entire practice? That’s why one wants to see. Matt Nagy though isn’t jumping to any conclusions. It is way too early in the process for that. A total of 12 padded practices remain to go.

If there is one thing people should know by now about Foles? He always tends to finish much stronger than he starts. One can imagine he’ll start to bring his best stuff out as things push down to the wire. Trubisky can’t afford to let one good practice get to his head. This will be a grind. His problem in the past three years has been consistency.

Can he string multiple good days together? This is what the Bears coaches are waiting to see.
