Trainer Claims Mitch Trubisky Throwing Shoulder Has Structural Issues

Mitch Trubisky has put in a ton of work this offseason to prepare for his upcoming battle with Nick Foles. This isn’t just limited to his throwing sessions with teammates or doing film work. He’s also been trying to take better care of his better. Especially after going through surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

One way he’s gone about this is working with Spear Training Center. They specialize in personal training regimens using a scientific-based approach. Recently on their Instagram, they posted a video update on Trubisky, one of their clients. They claim his rehab has gone splendidly. The shoulder is healthy, strong, and mobile.

However, they also delivered a fascinating nugget that was easy to miss. Midway through their quote, they stated that upon his joining the program, they made an interesting discovery. That Trubisky’s throwing shoulder suffered from structure imbalance.

This discovery is actually interesting for Mitch Trubisky

Now shoulder imbalance is not something people tend to hear about. That’s because it is more of a common thing with pitchers in baseball. However, quarterbacks can suffer from it too. An imbalance is often where a passer has greater muscle density in the front of the shoulder than the back. That might sound fine, but it isn’t. Drew Brees suffered from a similar issue early in his NFL career.

Finally during the 2004 offseason, he met with a man named Tom House who identified the problem. Here is an excerpt about it from the book “The QB: The Making of Modern Quarterbacks” by Bruce Feldman.

Brees began to conduct new techniques to strengthen and balance his shoulder. As a result, he threw 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions that season, his first Pro Bowl campaign. The rest is history.

If Trubisky does indeed have a similar issue, could fixing it lead to more consistency in his throwing power and accuracy? That sounds like the idea Spear has in mind.
