Cubs 2nd Round Pick Burl Carraway Could Be Pitching At Wrigley Field In 2020

-

It’s Day 2 of the MLB Draft and with the 51st overall pick the Cubs selected left-handed pitcher Burl Carraway in the second round out of Dallas Baptist.

The 6-foot lefty was the top rated reliever in this year’s draft class by Baseball America. He has two plus pitches, throwing in the high 90s that’s paired with a devastating curveball.

Don’t think of Carraway as possibly working himself up as a starting pitcher. Yet, the potential is there for the hard-throwing lefty to become a closer in the future with his two great pitches. He needs to work on his command, but the 21-year-old could be ready to pitch in the majors as soon as this year.

That sounds amazing, but maybe we’re getting a bit ahead of ourselves here. The strike-throwing has to improve and it’s just been a wonky year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Going from some college games to no baseball for an extended period of time to facing MLB hitters? But again, it has been a weird year, so we’ll see how things shape up for the Cubs and around the league. It does appear though that if this was a normal season, then Carraway would be primed to go into the Cubs’ bullpen in the second half of the year.

Regardless, Carraway has certainly done everything possible to stay ready.

Sweet.
