Bears Mailbag -- Possible Surprise Cuts Before 2020 Season?

The 2020 NFL schedule has been released! The overhyped but absolutely still fun event has come and gone, and given us a second helping of NFL SOMETHING in the span of a few weeks.

Of course, no one knows whether the schedule will be played per the timeline announced, or even if the full slate of games will be played. But for now, the Bears are scheduled to have four prime time games and five nationally televised games. They are still a draw.

In all seriousness, I don't expect any *major* surprises in terms of cuts. A few folks that I think we've all accepted would make the team that I think could find themselves in danger:

Javon Wims
Ryan Nall
Tyler Bray
Jesper Horsted
Isaiah Irving

The Bears brought back John Jenkins to back up Eddie Goldman. Along the DL, the Bears have decent depth, all things considered.

The reality is a team will never have sufficient depth to replace presence and production from elite players.

It'll be an adjustment throughout the league. Teams that are counting on new QBs stepping in and contributing (Cincinnati, Miami, LAC) are going to suffer from longer learning curves.

The Bears, in particular, should be better off than other teams.

Hyde would be a good fit, but I'd keep an eye on the UDFA market instead. Remember, whoever they bring in as competition would be facing off against Ryan Nall for the third RB spot. The first two spots are cemented.

He's a significant name, for sure. He's also expensive and not a great scheme fit for the Bears' particular offense.

The reality is, the Bears like their investments at RG much more than fans do.

It's certainly a logical choice. I think it will depend on what the NCAA does with the college football season and what Notre Dame decides to do with its academic year.
