A Chicago Bears Trade Target Who Makes Too Much Sense

The Chicago Bears may look like they’re done making moves with the draft over. Anybody who understands GM Ryan Pace though knows that the possibility of another big play is always there. The Khalil Mack trade happened in September. Same as the signing of guard Josh Sitton. The man never stops looking for ways to upgrade his roster. Don’t be surprised if he’s active on the waiver market in a couple of months. Not to mention the trade deadline to follow in October.

Right now every player of note seems untouchable on every roster across the league. That is natural this time of year. Things tend to change though when the season gets going. Teams that come out of the gates slow tend to weigh their options by Halloween time. Do they keep hope alive and try to win or do they start thinking about next year? That means selling off any potential commodities they may have for draft compensation.

Are there any names out there the Bears should at least be monitoring? A few. One in particular stands out for a number of reasons though. That being veteran receiver Albert Wilson who currently sits in a somewhat murky situation with the Miami Dolphins.

Wilson could give Chicago Bears offense something it’s missing

Most Bears fans likely remember Wilson from back in 2018 and that blisteringly hot day in Miami when he scorched the defense for 155 yards and two touchdowns. It’s not hard to see why the team tried to sign him earlier in free agency that year before he chose the Dolphins. Now though his future with that team is in question. He just got done taking a pay cut and is in the last season of his contract. If the team gets off to a poor start, they might look to acquire future assets like they did last year.

Being able to secure Wilson on a cheaper contract for what would likely be a late round pick could be a boon for their offense. One thing he brings to the table that is missing for the Bears passing game is yards after the catch. Over the past two seasons, Wilson has 742 yards receiving in 20 games. No less than 514 of those yards came after the catch. The guy is quite effective at creating plays for himself. Something no one else on this offense could do last season.

Chicago was dead last in average yards after reception at 4.1. Wilson would help improve that number. Keep an eye on the Dolphins once the season gets rolling.
