Even XFL Twitter Is Taking Brutal Shots at Mitch Trubisky

-

It’s not easy being Mitch Trubisky these days. His shining moment in the playoffs must seem so far away right now. After his disappointing 2019 season that saw him regress in every noteworthy way, his future with the Chicago Bears seems murky at best. That was made clear when GM Ryan Pace executed a trade for veteran Nick Foles from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pace declared it an open competition between the two for this summer. Trubisky would get the first snap in practice and given every chance to show he deserves one more shot. However, most beat writers and those close to the team believe Foles has the inside track. Unless he gets hurt or looks completely lost in practice and the preseason (if there is one) then the job is his to lose.

This leaves Trubisky’s future in question. While many think he’ll end up landing somewhere as a backup after 2020, a few have speculated he might be better off in the XFL. One can only imagine how humiliating that would be for a former #2 overall pick. So it probably stings when one of the top XFL fan accounts on Twitter delivered this body blow.

Mitch Trubisky would own the XFL if he actually went

The truth is Trubisky has continued to flash the potential he always showed since his rookie year. There is a good quarterback somewhere in there. He just can never bring it out consistently enough to matter. That is the crux of the issue. The Bears have always loved his potential, but they can’t afford to wait for him anymore. They have a championship defense and risk wasting it by continuing to ride a QB who can’t put more points on the board. Foles may not be perfect, but he has a ring for a reason.

Perhaps Trubisky might end up having a similar career to his new teammate. Foles broke out with a Pro Bowl and a playoff appearance in his second season like Trubisky did. Then he badly regressed in his third season. He ended becoming a journeyman, going to the Rams, Chiefs, and then back to the Eagles before finally rediscovering his top form and winning a championship in 2017.

Some out there believe that Trubisky was always going to take at least five years to figure out how to play quarterback in the NFL. His best years could be after he leaves Chicago. One thing is clear. If for some reason he decided to actually go to the XFL? He’d own that league.
