Derek Carr might be one of the most divisive names among Chicago Bears fans in regards to possible QB options. Many would love to have the three-time Pro Bowler. Others think he’s a waste of time. He’s never won anything and his current team wants to be rid of him. So how good can he be? Debates continue to rage on. Inevitably this idea has found its way into the national media.
Former wide receiver James Jones was asked what the best landing spot is for Carr in the event the Las Vegas Raiders trade him. Having played with him back in 2014, Jones felt if staying put wasn’t an option then the Bears would be a great new home for him. They have Khalil Mack on board along with that top 5 defense. Something Carr has never played with in his career.
Coupled with a good offensive coaching staff and some nice pieces at wide receiver to work with, that team become legitimate Super Bowl contenders were it to happen.
Derek Carr has the talent to thrive in Chicago
Jones has a soft spot for Carr. No quarterback targeted him more times in a single season (112) than the rookie did in 2014. The wide receiver also knows something about contenders. He won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. So one can imagine how it must’ve pained him to admit the Bears would be a great landing spot for the 29-year old QB.

Carr has topped 4,000 yards passing each of the past two seasons in Oakland. His 100.8 passer rating in 2019 was the highest of his career. He has 18 comebacks in the 4th quarter including one against the Bears last season in London. It’s hard to understand why people are so hard on him. Carr might not quite be elite but he shows all the signs of a good quarterback.
One thing is for sure. He’s better than Mitch Trubisky.
