Chicago Bears Awarded Compensatory 2020 Draft Pick

-

Free agency is just over a week away and the start of 2020 league year. Despite some delays caused by ongoing CBA negotiations, the NFL finally awarded its list of compensatory picks for the upcoming draft. For the first time since 2009, the Chicago Bears found themselves on that list. They were awarded the 140th overall pick towards the end of the 4th round. Compensation for their loss of safety Adrian Amos to free agency last year.

This puts the Bears’ overall pick total at eight for this draft. A nice consolation given the fact they have no 1st or 3rd round selections due to previous trades. GM Ryan Pace has also done great work in the 4th round with names like Eddie Jackson, Tarik Cohen, and Nick Kwiatkoski turning into major bright spots for this team. Hopefully, that trend will continue.

Chicago Bears have themselves a pretty lucky pick

Historically, #140 overall has been a fruitful pick for NFL teams. It’s produced a total of three Pro Bowlers since the 1970 merger. All wide receivers. They were Terance Mathis, Alex Bannister, and Johnny Knox. The latter two made it for their special teams work. Other names include cornerback Brandon Carr, cornerback Bobby Jackson, running back Wayne Gallman, quarterback Vince Evans, and pass rusher Parys Haralson.

Clearly it seems to be a good spot for skill position players. Something to keep in mind as the Bears prepare to do their work next month.
