Bears Mailbag -- Likelihood Of Ryan Pace Being Fired?

Before I dive in, I just wanted to reach out to all Chicago sports fans and wish everyone a safe social distancing period as the world grapples with COVID-19. These are unprecedented, wild times. Speaking of wild times — how about what the Chicago Bears have been up to in the last 2.5 days? They’ve re-signed Danny Trevathan, added Jimmy Graham, added Robert Quinn, released Leonard Floyd, and now traded for QB Nick Foles. Wow! Not all of these moves are good, but still, a flurry of activity in a period where there are no other sports to distract us.

I had released my Bears Mailbag for questions before many of these moves occurred, but I still wanted to share my thoughts via Mailbag as it pertains right now. I’ll have much more to share as free agency continues. Follow me on Twitter @DhruvKoul to continue the conversation.

To me, it would depend on the circumstance(s). Did the entire roster get hurt again? But I would think the Bears need to go at least 9-7, if not better, to continue with this regime.

Floyd was one of my choices to be cut, but that was taken care of today. I'd watch Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as a possibility to be re-signed. And the Bears will get a deal done with Roy Robertson-Harris, too.

I'd watch a long, athletic CB and an offensive lineman in the 2nd round.

The salary cap can always be manipulated. I think it's a matter of whether the Bears want to or not. Whom do they think is the best fit? That's the question.

They would undoubtedly add a draft pick by taking on Nick Foles, but they'd probably lose a couple as well.

Watching Mariota over the course of his career, he's very cerebral and accurate — things that are required to run Matt Nagy's offense. Also, he has an excellent deep ball.

Sudfeld is unlikely given he just signed a new deal, but Rosen intrigues the hell out of me. I'd love to see what he can do with a true change of scenery.

I think the open competition is inevitable. I don't think Cam is a good fit for the Bears. But where there's no smoke, there sometimes can still be fire, especially when it comes to what Ryan Pace is thinking. This is worth monitoring.

If the draft board falls that way, I think they might. The Bears have a lot of bodies at TE, but they can improve almost all of them.

I would've targeted Brandon Scherff, but he was franchise tagged. I have a feeling the Bears are going to invest a draft pick here.

They absolutely will be exploring the non-draft market. Keep an eye on Foles and Dalton. Those are the likeliest candidates.

At this point, honestly, my hope is he's better than Adam Shaheen. It shouldn't be difficult, but it's an unfortunate goal when he's making $9M guaranteed.
