Allen Robinson Has Already Done Research on Nick Foles

-

Allen Robinson hopes to stay in Chicago for a long time to come. His agent and the Bears brass continue working towards a potential contract extension. One that would keep in navy blue for years to come. It’s something he and fans everywhere want. That said, his focus must remain on the 2020 season and how the offense can get off the mat from a terrible 2019.

A big part of that is determining who will be the quarterback. Will Mitch Trubisky get one last shot to prove he was worth the #2 overall pick or will new arrival Nick Foles steal the job from him? Robinson can’t answer that question because only the coaches know and they aren’t talking. That said, it seems he considers the possibility of Foles taking over fairly strong.

That might be why he did some preliminary scouting of the veteran quarterback after the trade was announced according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Robinson did get Foles’ phone number from tight end Trey Burton, who is forever linked to Foles from Super Bowl LII.

“I had heard nothing but positive things about Nick from some of my former teammates in Jacksonville who played with him,” Robinson said. “I know it’s a new place for him, so I told him if he had any questions to feel free to reach out.”

Allen Robinson clearly just wants a functional QB

At the end of the day, Robinson is just trying to prepare himself as best he can. This poor guy has been saddled with ineffective quarterbacks his entire career from Blake Bortles to Trubisky. Could Foles finally give him something more to work with? The 30-year old has certainly played great in streaks during sections of his career. If the Bears can get even a watered-down version of that guy under center, Robinson has a chance to do some real damage this season.

Foles does have a history of liking bigger receivers. He and Alshon Jeffery had a lot of chemistry in Philadelphia. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see him clicking right away with Robinson. Especially given the two are rather similar in nature. Both somewhat soft-spoken to the media. Both having escaped Jacksonville with their reputations barely intact. It’s a natural fit.
