Maybe it’s because the offense fizzled out in 2019 and we know how awful September was for the Cubs last season, but did you realize that Willson Contreras and Victor Caratini combined to hit 35 home runs last year? Not too bad for your catching duo and they’ve kept it going through the first couple spring training games of 2020.

Contreras blasted a long home run in the Cactus League opener Saturday and Caratini followed with a homer of his own Sunday. And guess what, veteran catcher Josh Phegley joined the dinger party, smashing a three-run homer Monday against the Mariners.

Three straight games with a home run by a catcher for the Cubs. Impressive.

All the pressure is on Miguel Amaya to go deep on Tuesday now.

Oh and the Cubs absolutely own Marco Gonzales in spring training.
