The Yermin Mercedes Hype Train Is Rolling

That’s cute.

White Sox fans wanted to see Mercedes since last summer, as the right-handed slugger was mashing in the minors. September came and fans expected him to come up for a taste of the majors.

We even had a tattoo bet lined up.

But no, it didn’t happen. Even after a 1.033 OPS in 53 games at Triple-A in 2019, Mercedes never got called up. However, during the offseason he was added to the 40-man roster and slowly but surely he’s been grabbing everyone’s attention.

Rick Hahn on Yermin Mercedes: "Yermin can hit. All Yermin does is hit every level he goes to." Hahn also praised Mercedes as a "pretty good receiver" as a catcher both from what the coaches have said and based on some of the outside metrics.

On Monday, Mercedes launched a rocket to the concourse in left field in spring training action against the Dodgers.

Now the hype train is rolling, as Yermin battles for the 26th spot on the Opening Day roster for the White Sox.
