Kris Bryant Expects To Be With Cubs On Opening Day After Talking With Theo Epstein

-

Tired of seeing all the Kris Bryant trade rumors? Well, those will probably quiet down for at least the next four months and after Bryant’s latest comments it’s safe to say you don’t have to worry about a surprise deal before Opening Day.

Last week when Theo Epstein met the media in Arizona he said he had not given Bryant any guarantees about not being traded during spring training. The Cubs third baseman answered a whole bunch of questions on Saturday, called out some BS rumors and clarified that there are no hard feelings between him and the club. Yet, he did want some reassurance from the front office on his status for Opening Day.

According to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Bryant and Epstein met Sunday and cleared the air.

Bryant reported to Arizona under a cloud of uncertainty. He admitted it felt good to finally address the trade rumors, a losing service-time grievance and his desire to stay with the Cubs. Bryant then had a productive, clear-the-air meeting on Sunday with president of baseball operations Theo Epstein.
“I just told him at the end that it was good we both said what we needed to say, and we both feel great about it. Obviously, there were just some misunderstandings on both sides, which of course is going to happen. But it’s just good to clear things up with one another, one on one.”

Although Bryant didn’t give any details about his chat with Epstein in that story, he was asked Tuesday if he now expects to be with the Cubs on Opening Day after talking with Theo.

Love it.
