Derek Carr Instagram Post Has Bears Fans Going Nuts

-

It’s hardly a secret at this point that the Las Vegas Raiders might be considering a change at quarterback. Their head coach Jon Gruden is notorious for preferring older veterans at that position. Hence the rumored interest in Tom Brady. This has put their current starter Derek Carr in an awkward position considering he had a really good season in 2020 and is still under contract for another few years. Speculation has already begun that the team might consider trading him.

To where? That is undetermined.

What nobody knows is the desires of Carr himself. One can imagine he’s well aware of Gruden’s feelings at this point and might prefer a fresh start elsewhere. That makes the timing if his recent post on Instagram rather interesting. The 29-year old quarterback posted a photo of him and Khalil Mack meeting up after the Bears and Raiders played in London last season.

The two were quite close as teammates in Oakland and have remained so despite being separated after Mack was traded to Chicago. Could it be that he desires a reunion?

One must tread carefully on this Derek Carr moment

It’s so easy to blow things out of proportion at a time like this. Carr coming to Chicago would make a lot of sense. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler with a long track record of strong play at the position. His contract is affordable by current standards and he’s not too old. He also features the kind of arm that is perfect for Soldier Field. However, a lot would have to happen in order for the Bears to even consider doing something like this.

Namely admitting Mitch Trubisky was a failure. Something GM Ryan Pace hasn’t seemed willing to do.

Maybe that changes in the next month or so. Still, it’s important not to get too carried away with something like this. It’s fun to speculate and there is no question Carr would be an upgrade over Trubisky. Beyond that, this merely smoke. Not enough heat.
