Give this to Dan Sileo. When he commits to something, he goes 100%. For those who aren’t caught up, here’s a recap. The former defensive tackle was a standout at Miami before spend a brief time in the NFL. After retiring, he became a prominent radio host in both California and Florida. Recently he’s developed a reputation for delivering “inside” scoops on certain things happening around the league. Much of it involving the Chicago Bears and their superstar pass rusher Khalil Mack.
A couple of days ago, he drew tons of raised eyebrows when he gave a list of teams that were actively calling the Cincinnati Bengals about the #1 overall pick. One of them being the Bears. This despite not exactly swimming in available draft picks to give. That same day, Sileo struck again when he stated the team was making Mack available and listening to offers. One would think two major declarations would be enough.
Nope. Barely 48 hours later, he stated that GM Ryan Pace and his front office had shifted talks to the Washington Redskins regarding their #2 overall pick and that Mack was a central part of the discussions. When argued by somebody that the Redskins would never do that because they’re going to draft Chase Young out of Ohio State, Sileo countered. He stated that Washington already has their QB (Dwayne Haskins) and would get their pass rusher in Mack along with other high picks.
If Bears move, Khalil Mack is their only hope
So what would be the purpose of the Bears doing this? Obviously the idea would be to go up and get a quarterback. In this scenario, it would most likely be Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. This, of course, depending on if he gets favorable results at the scouting combine for his medical checkups. Tagovailoa suffered a hip injury towards the end of the 2019 season for the Crimson Tide. He’s widely viewed as a surefire stud at the position with one draft expert even comparing him to Drew Brees.

Mention that name around Pace and one can imagine the interest.
The problem with any move of this magnitude is logistics. Without a 1st round pick of their own, the Bears would have to find a way to convince the Redskins to part with the #2 pick without getting a 1st in 2020 in return. The only way that gets done is with Mack involved. He’s still a terror and squarely in his prime. Coupled with their two 2nd rounders and probably two future 1sts in 2021 and 2022 would be the ballpark needed to get it done.
That is a lot, and possibly for a guy who already had notable issues with staying healthy. As aggressive as Pace is, he’s not that crazy.
