Will The Dodgers Ultimately Be The Team To Watch In A Kris Bryant Trade?

The Cubs trading Kris Bryant is stupid, but that’s something they’re considering and IF they do trade him the very least you want is to have a bidding war with teams that have the best, young talent available.

Anthony Rendon signed with the Angels, taking him away from the Nationals. Since then, everyone has been waiting for Josh Donaldson to sign and again IF the Cubs trade Bryant you’d want Donaldson to sign with anyone outside of the NL East.

The Phillies, Nationals and Braves have all been linked to Bryant in trade rumors this offseason, so you’d want those teams battling it out in trade talks with the Cubs. Yet, as Donaldson’s market has been slow to develop, it does appear that he might just end up going back to the Braves. Meanwhile, the Nationals have signed Starlin Castro and Asdrúbal Cabrera this past week and they just now agreed to a deal with Eric Thames.

The Nationals have also signed relievers Will Harris and Daniel Hudson. So, it appears that they know they’re out on Donaldson and the third baseman is most likely re-signing with the Braves.

The Phillies? There’s really no realistic trade package that would make it worth it for the Cubs.

So, right now you can pretty much count out the Braves in Bryant trade talks, leaving the Nationals as the only serious suitors from the NL East. However, during the weekend The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that talks between the Nationals and Cubs have gone nowhere.

So, who might end up being the best match in a trade for Bryant?

On Monday, Rosenthal was on MLB Network and once again brought up the Dodgers as a potential suitor for Bryant.

And if you’re a Cubs fan you want the Dodgers to get involved, as they have several top notch prospects in their system, including a few highly regarded pitchers.

Trade talks won’t get serious until after Donaldson signs and of course the Cubs are still waiting for the outcome of Bryant’s grievance case. But that’s where we stand on the teams who may be involved. Right now it’s safe to say that the Braves won’t be one of them, leaving the Nationals and possibly the Dodgers as the two prominent teams interested in trading for Bryant.
