Allen Robinson is known both for being a great player on the football field and an active citizen off it. This is in regards to his generous charity work but also his strong presence on social media. The star wide receiver isn’t afraid to get on Twitter all the time, firing off random comments about things he hears. Nothing controversial of course. Well, at least not intentionally. By the look of things, Robinson may have gotten himself in a bit of trouble with a teammate.
Let’s explain. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network appeared on Good Morning Football recently with some interesting news. Former All-Pro safety Eric Berry, who did not play in 2019, was planning to return to the league in 2020. His hiatus was intentional due in large part to the physical toll his body had been through battling cancer and playing such a violent game. It appears he now feels refreshed and ready to get back to work.
This instantly intrigued Robinson, who immediately dreamed of a potential pairing of Berry and Eddie Jackson on the Chicago Bears defense.
Plenty of people were doing the same thing. However, one person wasn’t happy about it. That being Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. The man who’d started next to Jackson in 2019 and played pretty well seemed a little put off by the comment.

Allen Robinson didn’t mean it as a dig at Ha Ha
Obviously Robinson’s statement was not meant as a shot at Clinton-Dix. It was more an expression of interest based on knowledge of his team’s situation. Everybody knows that the safety is a free agent this coming March. He’s almost certain to demand a considerable price on the open market and the Bears just got done making Jackson the highest-paid safety in the NFL. It shouldn’t be a huge shock that people are assuming Clinton-Dix is gone.
It seems though that the man himself isn’t ready to accept that. This isn’t the first time Clinton-Dix has hinted at his wishes to stay in Chicago. He welcomed new teammate Kentrell Brice a couple of weeks ago and certainly sounded like a man intent on remaining a Bear. Whether that actually happens depends on how contract negotiations go. If he is motivated to stay, then odds are he’ll be willing to accept some sort of discount to ease the Bears’ salary cap issue.
Otherwise what Robinson was was perfectly legitimate. Berry, being older and coming in after a year off will come cheaper as well. Still, it will be interesting to see whether this little situation develops into something later on.
