The White Sox busy offseason continues, as not only are they in serious pursuit of Edwin Encarnacion after signing Dallas Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez last week, but they’re also opening extension talks with Luis Robert.
After signing Eloy Jimenez to a six-year, $43 million extension last offseason that also includes two club options, the White Sox are trying to sign their number one prospect to a similar contract. According to James Fox, the talks are open, although it seems to be in the early stages of negotiations.
Robert, 22, signed with the White Sox in 2017, and received a $26 million signing bonus. The center fielder made a joke of minor league pitching to begin the 2019 season, jumping up to Triple-A by July. Across three levels in the minors last season Robert slashed .328/.376/.624, with 32 home runs, 36 stolen bases and 108 runs scored.
Robert finished the 2019 season as the third best prospect in baseball.
If the White Sox and Robert agree to a contract extension, then he’ll definitely be on the Opening Day roster in 2020. Oh and by the way, we’re giving away THREE FREE TICKETS for the White Sox home opener.
