Packers Play-by-Play Man is Suddenly Wary of Mitch Trubisky

-

Wayne Larrivee is one of the most respected play-by-play announcers in the NFL. He’s been doing it for decades and doing it well. He was the guy for the 1985 Chicago Bears way back when and has covered the Green Bay Packers for most of their glorious run of the late 1990s and through the present day. He’s also seen the futility of the Bears quarterback position in that time. So it was interesting to see him speak out regarding what happened with Mitch Trubisky on Thursday Night Football.

For those who aren’t caught up, they missed Trubisky’s best game of 2019 by a mile. Facing a must-win situation in primetime against the Dallas Cowboys, the 25-year old was nearly flawless. He threw for 244 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. On top of that, he ran for 63 yards and another touchdown. He was the best player on the field and Larrivee was among those who took notice.

He’s not wrong. Over the past two games, Trubisky is red hot. He’s now accounted for seven total touchdowns and helped the offense to 55 points. People can argue all day about whether he can sustain it. The fact is the 25-year old quarterback appears locked in and playing the best football of his career. The Packers, though leading the division comfortably, suddenly can’t afford to overlook Chicago next week. Not with a defense that ranks 22nd against the pass.

Mitch Trubisky knows the proving time is not over

One could say Trubisky’s nightmare of a start to 2019 was thanks to how he performed in the opener against Green Bay. No TD passes. One backbreaking interception. Just three points scored. It was ugly and also seemed to badly shake his confidence. It took over two months to seemingly get it back. Now he has a chance at redemption in 10 days when the Bears travel up to Lambeau Field for their second of four must-win games.

The Bears have remained steadfast in his corner through all the downtimes and now he’s begun to reward them with the kind of play they were hoping for when the season started. Better late than never as they say. There is still plenty of work for him to do. Two good games against deflated opponents won’t be enough to convince people that this turnaround is for real. He has to beat a good opponent in a meaningful game and look sharp doing so. That’s just the way things are in the NFL.

Larrivee for one thinks it might be coming.
