Matt Nagy Revealed the Play He Felt Mitch Trubisky Began to Click

-

Mitch Trubisky is in the midst of perhaps his best stretch of play as quarterback of the Chicago Bears. Sure he’s had instances of better overall production but the look of it is different this time. It’s not just a young athlete making a lot of individual plays. This is a quarterback executing from the pocket and delivering the ball on target. Something the team has waited to see for months. So when or where did all this begin because it certainly wasn’t happening in the first half of the season. Head coach Matt Nagy thinks he knows.

Things were bad for Trubisky back then. In seven appearances, he managed just 1,217 yards with five touchdown passes and three interceptions. For almost half of a season. Not good. People were ready to start making plans for the team to move on with a veteran in 2020. Nagy was asked if there was a moment that the young QB finally just stopped overthinking things and started to execute. It didn’t take long for him to give an answer.

In his mind, it came at the end of the first half on November 10th against the Detroit Lions. After being shut out for all but 32 seconds of the first two quarters, Trubisky finally broke through with a pretty 18-yard strike to backup tight end Ben Braunecker. The play put the Bears out in front going into half time and they would go on to win the game 20-13.

Matt Nagy saw his QB really begin to operate differently

The results didn’t show up immediately. After throwing three touchdowns against Detroit, Trubisky had up-and-down games against the Rams and Giants. However, even in those instances, there were signs of him throwing the ball with more confidence. This finally translated into the past two weeks with two big wins over the Lions on Thanksgiving and Dallas on Thursday Night Football. Since that fateful day back in November, Trubisky has 1,223 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also has two TD runs as well.

The kid is playing with such confidence now and it’s become infectious to the rest of the offense. This is no longer Jordan Howard’s offense as it was for stretches last season. Trubisky is the unquestioned guy now and he is seizing the moment. The timing could’ve been a little better but the Bears aren’t complaining. They go into Lambeau Field on Sunday with a ton of momentum. While nobody is sure what will happen in that game, there is a strong belief that if this version of Trubisky shows up? They will have a great chance to win.
