Khalil Mack’s Nickname for Akiem Hicks Will Never, Ever Be Topped

-

Nicknames are a regular thing among athletes. Especially teammates. Brian Urlacher was known as “Lach” back in his playing days. Everybody, of course, remembers Charles Tillman as “Peanut.” Walter Payton had “Sweetness.” The list goes on. This current collection of Chicago Bears are no different. Most people know Eddie Jackson as “Bojack.” However, that can’t compare to the title bestowed upon Akiem Hicks.

By now everybody has learned that the Pro Bowl defensive end is nearing a return after two months down with an elbow injury. The big man is anxious to get back and there is no doubt his teammates are anxious to have him back. Chief among them is Khalil Mack. The star pass rusher has seen a lot of double and triple teams ever since Hicks went down. Getting that pair back together should produce instant results.

Yet anticipation for that reunion pales in comparison to when Mack revealed what he called his teammate during a press conference on Tuesday.

“It’s always fun when you got the Mufasa out there, man. I call him Mufasa. That’s my guy, man. A real special player. Not only that. A real special person.”

Akiem Hicks really is Mufasa to this defense

In case some people somehow haven’t seen it, Mufasa is the father lion from the hit Disney animated movie “The Lion King.” He was known for his intelligence, wisdom, and strength. All traits that fit Hicks perfectly. He truly is the father figure of this defense. So it was no surprise that things seemed to fall apart for a time after he went down. Unlike the movie though, the Bears will get their Mufasa back before the season ends. If they can win against Dallas on Thursday night, his return could have a monumental impact on their rematch with the Green Bay Packers.
