Next month is the rule 5 draft and that’s when MLB teams can take guys from other minor league systems who aren’t protected. The deadline to add players to your 40-man roster, which protects them from being taken by other teams in the rule 5 draft was today and the White Sox added seven minor leaguers. Fans will recognize almost all of these names, headlined by five prospects ranked in the top-30 of the White Sox farm system.
So, Zack Burdi, Dane Dunning, Matt Foster, Jimmy Lambert, Bernando Flores Jr. Yermin Mercedes and Blake Rutherford are all protected from the rule 5 draft in December.
The one player White Sox fans are most excited about? Mercedes.
Dude absolutely killed it at Triple-A in 2019.
