Ryan Pace Gives Surprise Update on Danny Trevathan Injury

-

If there is one piece of good news Chicago Bears fans will like to hear from Ryan Pace, it’s on the status of linebacker Danny Trevathan. The leader and unofficial captain of the defense suffered a gruesome-looking elbow injury against the Detroit Lions last Sunday. One that people assumed virtually guaranteed he would land on Injured Reserve. His exit from the locker room with his arm in a sling all but confirmed those beliefs.

Yet nothing happened afterward. The Bears have remained silent on the Trevathan issue all week long, not putting him on IR or anything. It’s possible he’s been seeking second opinion on the injury to see if sitting out a few weeks might enable him to return but that’s mere speculation. Or at least it was until Pace sat down for an interview with Jeff Joniak of Chicagobears.com. There the GM indicated in no uncertain terms that there is a possibility that Trevathan will indeed return at some point this season.

On Danny Trevathan’s injury status:
“He’s got the elbow. Our plan right now is to just take it week by week. You know how much Danny means to our team as a player and a leader and we know he’ll be working hard to get back as soon as he can.”

On it being good news that Trevathan is not being placed on injured reserve:
“I think it speaks to who he is too. And our trainers and docs are doing a good job too. You never want to count that guy out.”

Ryan Pace knows Trevathan is vital to that defense

This certainly speaks to the toughness and will of Trevathan. Most guys probably would be done for the year after an injury like that. By the sound of things after that game, he was nowhere near such an idea. The man seemed like he had every intention of doing whatever possible to get back on the field before this season was over. One can imagine that urgency will be even greater if the Bears manage to escape Los Angeles with a win.

It’s likely he will be out the rest of this month at least and probably return sometime in December. That is unless the Bears fall out of the playoff race. Then the team may decide to just shut him down the rest of the year.
