REPORT: Two Cubs Coaches Will Leave To Join Joe Maddon With Angels

-

A few more coaching changes have been confirmed for the Cubs, as 670 The Score’s Bruce Levine has reported that Brian Butterfield and Tim Buss will leave to join Joe Maddon with the Angels.

Butterfield was hired as the Cubs third base coach to begin the 2018 season. Before coming to Chicago he was Boston’s third base coach from 2013-17. Butterfield began his coaching career back in 1979 in college, before joining the Yankees organization. He’s managed in the minors and has coached on five MLB teams since the mid-90s.

While Tim Buss was mostly working behind the scenes with the Cubs as their strength and conditioning coach, he had a great relationship with the players and has one hell of a personality.

Wonder if Buss will leave the speedo behind for the next Cubs strength and conditioning coach.

The Cubs are also reportedly looking to add a veteran bench coach to put next to David Ross and with Butterfield off to Anaheim you could see current bench coach Mark Loretta moved to third base coach in 2020.

Former Blue Jays and Red Sox manager John Farrell is expected to be a candidate to join Ross’ coaching staff next season.

So, the Cubs will have at least a new manager, third base coach, bench coach and strength and conditioning coach in 2020.

And here’s a little more on the change to the strength and conditioning program for the Cubs going forward.
