Mitch Trubisky Passed Up a Clear 1st Down to Avoid a Hit

-

People keep talking up the toughness of Mitch Trubisky it’s fair to say he has plenty of moments showcasing that. However, questions have begun to arise in recent weeks that the quarterback has begun to grow gunshy when it comes to taking hits. A huge piece of evidence reared its ugly head. Faced with a 3rd and 4, Trubisky took the snap. With nobody open, he stepped up and started to run. The camera angles showed a lot of space in front of him. More than enough to get a 1st down.

Instead he suddenly pulled a sharp left turn towards the sideline and eventually went down after a couple of yards. The Bears were forced to settle for a field goal to make it 17-10. Videos of Matt Nagy after that play showed him clearly furious and with good reason. That should’ve been a 1st down and given the Bears a chance to cash in a score. Trubisky’s lack of awareness or a simple lack of courage ended up ruining that.

People have said the confidence of Trubisky is the biggest issue facing this team. Based on plays like that, it’s easy to see what they’re talking about. His aggressive nature just isn’t there anymore. It’s hard to tell where it went after how he played last season. Maybe it was the second shoulder injury or maybe it was his disappointing performance against Green Bay. Either way, the Bears are getting more proof by the series that the kid just doesn’t have that same spark anymore.
