Irish Commit Named Finalist for HS Heisman

-

All season, 2021 Notre Dame commit Tyler Buchner has been stuffing stat sheets.

Now, he has been named a finalist for the San Diego HS football equivalent of the Heisman Trophy after leading The Bishop’s School to a perfect regular season.

The Silver Pig Skin is awarded to the best player in the San Diego area, the highest award in the area for San Diego high school football.

Buchner’s mother took to twitter to call for Irish fans’ votes for Tyler.

In Good Company

According to her tweet, Buchner is the first area HS Junior since Reggie Bush to have been nominated for the award.

As Irish fans we are all too familiar with Bush, who later went on to win the actual Heisman trophy. Granted he would later be stripped of the award due to NCAA sanctions, it is still high company to keep.

Human Highlight Reel

Buchner has been lighting it up all year long. According to MaxPreps, Buchner blew up for 3,358 passing yards with a TD/INT ratio of 41/5. The junior play maker also had 1,149 rushing yards with 20 touchdowns.

For the regular season he averaged 450.7 YPG of total offense. Filthy. If you were not on the Buchner train by now, you need to get on it.
