Former Bears Point Out Why Matt Nagy is Full of S**t

-

It’s not much fun being Matt Nagy right now. Not only did he watch the 2019 season likely go down the drain in a 17-7 loss in L.A. Now he’s embroiled in a controversy after benching Mitch Trubisky late in the game for Chase Daniel. A move that was met with utter confusion. It was quickly reported that Trubisky was dealing with a hip injury but many felt that the head coach used that as an excuse to get the 25-year old out of the game.

Where it gets really weird is what came after the game. Nagy stated that he began to notice a problem with Trubisky about two serious before the decision was made to pull him. For his part, the quarterback stated that he actually hurt himself towards the end of the first half and the hip just kept tightening after that. It feels like there was a disconnect somewhere between the two. Former Bears Alex Brown, Lance Briggs, Olin Kreutz, and Matt Forte all discussed the matter.

From the way they see it, Nagy was lying. He knew about Trubisky’s hip problem long before he said he did.

Matt Nagy is in pure damage control mode now

Why would Nagy lie in that situation? Probably because it’s a bad look that he chose to play his injured quarterback in the second half rather than giving Chase Daniel a proper chance to find a rhythm through two quarters and maybe generate something on offense. He even compounded matters by actually having Trubisky run an option on 3rd and 1 that opened him up to even more punishment. The game management, in general, was an incredible exercise of ineptitude.

Maybe Nagy thought he was trusting Trubisky to know his body, yet that doesn’t explain his decision to lie about when he knew. It feels like Nagy is doing everything in his power to keep things from falling apart. Yet his decisions are only making matters worse. One thing is certain. His honeymoon period is long gone and his job could be in jeopardy down the stretch.
