Even Chicago’s Mayor is Trolling Eddy Pineiro and the Bears Offense

-

It wouldn’t be hard for any casual fan who doesn’t follow the Chicago Bears to pinpoint where their problems are. All they’d have to do is look at the stat column for this season to identify them. The offense ranks 30th in total yards and 28th in scoring. One of the worst in the NFL. On top of that, kicker Eddy Pineiro has now missed five field goals on the season, going 12-of-17 for a woeful 70.6% accuracy rate. Even worse than what Cody Parkey put up the year before.

If that doesn’t depress you, nothing will. This has inevitably led to many people taking their opportunities to fire shots at both the offense and Pineiro himself. One person who got in on the action is none other than the newly-elected mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot. During a recent press conference, she was asked whether she planned to watch the Bears on Thanksgiving and what it might take for them to win.

Her answers, while completely true, were no less harsh.

Eddy Pineiro will be one of many fighting for his job

With the Bears 4-6 and virtually out of the playoff picture, the objectives for the team down the stretch have shifted to player evaluation. The coaching staff will start taking several notes on those who are or are not performing up to the necessary standard. Those that do will likely get to stay in 2020. Those that don’t will be cut loose in favor of other options. Rest assured that Pineiro and several members of the offense including quarterback Mitch Trubisky are well aware of this.

They aren’t just playing these final six games trying to win. They’re playing for their jobs. Pineiro especially. He doesn’t have the protection of his contract as Trubisky does. If he misses one or two more kicks, he’ll be back on the street. It will be interesting to see how he responds. Lightfoot is indeed correct. He better find his leg fast.
