Saints get unwelcome injury news with Chicago Bears looming

-

The New Orleans Saints have navigated their schedule brilliantly of late despite not having star quarterback Drew Brees available. This has been done through the steady, mistake-free play of backup Teddy Bridgewater, strong defensive efforts, and the reliable running of star back Alvin Kamara. Unfortunately, it appears that formula could be in jeopardy ahead of their showdown at Soldier Field with the Chicago Bears.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Kamara has been dealing with a particularly bothersome ankle issue. Recent reports indicate some form of high ankle sprain. Anybody knows that these types of injuries are painful and can limit players in terms of their ability to move. So one can imagine how much of a problem it is for a running back. Kamara still believes he has a chance to play despite the issue, but even if he does the general feeling is he won’t be close to 100%.

This is a tough blow for the Saints who would have to lean on veteran Latavius Murray if he can’t go. If that wasn’t bad enough, new also dropped that starting cornerback P.J. Williams will also miss the upcoming game due to a suspension. This will make life a bit harder for their defense as well. All in all, the Saints are still good but won’t be nearly at full strength when they hit Soldier Field.

Chicago Bears should respect but not fear the Saints

One thing that is for sure. The Bears are in no position to feel cocky. That went out the window after they were humbled in London by the Raiders. Akiem Hicks just went on injured reserve and the offense is currently ranked among the worst in the NFL. They can’t expect the Saints to show any sort of mercy for their problems. If the Bears want respect, they’ll have to go out and take it. Good teams take advantage of opponents who are ailing.

Don’t expect New Orleans to feel the aura of being on the road either. Sean Payton and his team have won their past two visits to Soldier Field. They’re 9-2 dating back to last season in opposing stadiums. Chicago isn’t going to rattle them any more than any other place they’ve traveled to. In order to win this game, the Bears simply have to outexecute them and take advantage of their weaknesses. That means limiting star receiver Michael Thomas and finding a way to score some points.
