Cubs Manager Update: Joe Espada And Gabe Kapler Interviews Are Scheduled For This Week

-

All right, it seems we’ve reached the final stages of the Cubs managerial search, as Astros bench coach Joe Espada and former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler have interviews scheduled for this week.

Espada is reportedly interviewing with the Cubs today.

Sounds like these will be the last couple interviews for the Cubs.

The Cubs have already interviewed Mark Loretta, Will Venable, Joe Girardi and David Ross, while Carlos Beltrán has pulled his name out of consideration for any job outside of the Mets.

Espada has a lot of coaching experience with the Marlins, Yankees and Astros, while Kapler had a quick two-year stint as Phillies manager and was fired after the 2019 season. Kapler was previously the Dodgers director of player development and was runner-up to Dave Roberts for LA’s manager position after 2015.

During his time working for the Dodgers, Kapler also failed to report a few different incidents of minor league players assaulting women and at least one sexual assault allegation. Kapler never reported them to MLB.
