Yes, injuries actually make great players bad.

Kris Bryant was on his way to posting a career high OPS and probably getting close to a new career high in home runs in 2019 before suffering a knee injury that flared up in July. He was slashing .216/.295/.366, from July 27 through Sept. 7, before Bryant finally got a a cortisone shot in his injured knee last Sunday.

Bryant missed two games in a row last Sunday and Monday, but ever since he’s returned Bryant has been on an absolute rampage.

Bryant hit two home runs in his first game back against the Padres on Tuesday, got a hit in each of the next three games and then hit a home run on Saturday and two on Sunday against the Pirates.

Bryant had five home runs in the entire month of August.

With his recent offensive surge, Bryant also broke an Ernie Banks record.

Bryant’s 13th career multi-HR game on Sunday gave him 138 to begin his MLB career with the Cubs.

And if it wasn’t for a shoulder injury last year, Bryant would have way more dingers by now.

Bryant’s OPS has gone from .889 to .925 in the past week. That’s a team high for the Cubs and his 31 home runs are second most behind Kyle Schwarber’s 36.
