Javier Báez Not Ruled Out For Season, Could Be Used As Pinch-Runner vs. Cardinals

-

Maybe it’s a little too late, but the Cubs might be getting Javier Báez back on a full-time basis before the regular season ends. He’s been out since Sept. 1, when he suffered a hairline fracture in his left thumb, but after being re-evaluated this week, he’s been cleared for some baseball activities.

You could even see Báez as soon as Thursday against the Cardinals as a pinch runner.

Joe Maddon said the biggest issue for Báez right now is being able to simply close his glove on defense. The Cubs manager isn’t ruling Báez out for the season.

The Cubs are three games back of the Cardinals in the division and play them in seven of their final 10 games.
