At Least Five Things Cubs Fans Should Be Pissed About After Another Embarrassing Loss

Again, why the fuck was Tony Kemp leading off? Because he sometimes makes contact? What? Solid night at the plate, going 0-for-4, with two strikeouts. Pretty much a microcosm of the Cubs offense Wednesday night, as they only got three hits in a 4-0 loss to the Padres.

So, in the second inning Anthony Rizzo leadoff and hit a triple. Then, Kris Bryant hit a fly ball to center field. It wasn’t too deep, but deep enough for Rizzo to try and score.

I know your back is all screwed up and you’re not fast at all, but c’mon Rizzo. Or I guess that’s on the third base coach? Whatever the case, you can’t waste any chance to score off a good pitcher.

Willson Contreras struck out and Jason Heyward grounded out to end the inning, stranding Rizzo at third.

You might look at the box score and ask why Cole Hamels was pulled after 4.1 innings despite allowing just one run? Well, he wasn’t actually pitching well and was fortunate not to give up more runs against the Padres.

It was pretty obvious that Joe Maddon had a short leash on Hamels, so the real question is why the hell did he let Hamels hit in the top of the fifth inning when the Cubs had two runners on with two outs? At most Hamels was only going to pitch one more inning, but at the first sign of trouble he was pulled after giving up a home run and then walking Manny Machado with one out.

Again, it was pretty obvious the Cubs weren’t going to get many scoring chances against Chris Paddack and when they finally did get another one after the Rizzo triple, Maddon let his pitcher walk up to the plate and strike out. Then took him out after only getting one more out.

It didn’t end up mattering because the offense was too busy planning their vacations for October, but what the hell was this Brad?

The Cubs lost 4-0 and the most infuriating thing is that the damn Cardinals, who couldn’t lose a game for an entire month, all of a sudden went to Colorado and lost back-to-back games to the Rockies. Did the Cubs take advantage? No.

Instead, in less than a week, the Cubs went from five games ahead of the Brewers for the second Wild Card spot to now tied with them. Way to go Cubs. Way to fight. Way to look completely lifeless against a team that didn’t at all look interested on Monday.

From the ownership, to the front office, the manager, the players and even the training staff, what a complete shit show this season has been so far.

Still 2.5 more weeks to go to not have a real embarrassing melt down. Sure is trending that way.
