Josh Woods Earned Awesome Reward for His Sack against the Colts

-

Backup linebacker Josh Woods had another nice game for the Chicago Bears on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. Not only did he have five tackles, pushing his preseason total to 19, he also had a sack late in the game to help preserve the victory. It was another important play for him as it provides even more tape for the Bears coaches to ponder regarding his status as a hopeful for making the final roster.

As it turns out, there may have been a little extra incentive for Woods to make that play. According to Woods on Twitter after the game, Danny Trevathan presented a challenge to the backup inside linebackers as time was winding down. Whoever was able to get the quarterback on the ground first would earn a special reward after the game. When he revealed what it was, apparently Woods wasn’t going to be denied.

Everybody who has been on social media of late has heard about the war raging over which chicken restaurant has the better sandwich: Popeyes or Chick-fil-a. It would appear the former is getting overwhelming support. For good reason too because it is obviously superior. Woods, like any sane man, recognized that and wasn’t going to lose out on a free one.

Josh Woods deserves consideration for a roster spot

Woods is putting a lot of pressure on the Bears coaching staff. Nagy said that inside linebacker was a position he was watching closely. For good reason because the team seems to have a number of intriguing talents there. Woods is one of them. His preseason performance backs that up. Aside from 19 tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack on defense he also has a tackle and an assisted tackle on special teams.

The kid is doing everything one must do to make the roster.

The question is whether the Bears can justify carrying five inside linebackers or parting ways with either Nick Kwiatkoski or Joel Iyiegbuniwe. It’s difficult to justify the former as both of those linebackers also had good games in Indianapolis. So Woods’ best hope is that the team considers opening a fifth slot for him. That may not be easy given the depth they have at other positions as well.
