The Cubs are still looking forward to Ben Zobrist coming back to the team since his absence from the club beginning in early May. The 38-year-old has been playing in the minors this month and that will continue Thursday, when Zobrist will be assigned to Double-A Tennessee.

After that, Zobrist will head back to the Iowa Cubs and play at Triple-A on Friday and Saturday.

Zobrist has played in nine minor league games since returning to game action. The veteran switch hitter has gone 6-for-27 at the plate, with two home runs, five walks and six strikeouts. He started twice at Triple-A last week, while also pinch-hitting on Friday.

The Cubs have said they hope to have Zobrist back by September, but that when he does return he won’t be an every day player. Zobrist must be reinstated from the restricted list before Sept. 1, to be eligible for postseason play.

Zobrist last played for the Cubs on May 7.
