DJ Moore was an All-American at Vanderbilt. He became a 4th round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2009. So that came with a certain level of expectations. They felt he had the talent to become a key part of their defense. Especially given his nose for the football. Most people remember the story after that. He became a regular contributor in 2010 and had eight interceptions over the next two seasons.
Then he made some inadvisable remarks about Jay Cutler on television, against Lovie Smith’s direct orders and eventually got phased out of the defense until he was no longer playing. Then he became a free agent, wasn’t re-signed and spent one more year in the league with Carolina. It was an unfortunate turn for what looked like such a promising career. A big part of why was Moore’s tendency to make bad personal decisions.
The Cutler fiasco was the more publicly known one, but it turns out another almost cost him his Bears career before it ever began. It had to do with his first training camp. One that was all but ruined by his insatiable sweet tooth when it comes to the opposite sex.
DJ Moore got two women pregnant before his first camp
In his latest #StorytimeWithDJMoore segment for Pro Style Media, Moore revealed that he had a problem during his younger days when it came to women. He loved them. Too much as it turns out. Everybody knows what can happen when having a lot of sex in general. So when one likes to live dangerously without protection? It can get hairy in a hurry.

“Every man has a vice and I absolutely loved the ladies. I had a motto “If I don’t feel skin, I ain’t in.” Sexual roulette you could call it. I was easily a step above promiscuous. Of the four young ladies I was consistently seeing at the time, two of them simultaneously gave me a surprise — just in time for training camp. I received one call early and the other later on the same day. Both voices echoing the same phrases asking me if I wanted “to keep it.” In my head I was thinking hell no, but I replied, “The decision is yours, and I support you on whatever decision you make.” I felt like a politician making promises to a side family in Dubai…
…I battled through and luckily made the team by the slimmest of margins. I did not end up becoming a dad at that time. You would think that experience would have made me cautious of any future actions? Wrong! When I look back on it, I’m surprised I’m writing these responses STD-free.”
Moore apparently sucked in training camp. He couldn’t do anything right and the coaches got on him hard about it. He was fortunate that they took him in the 4th round because that’s probably a key reason they decided to keep him. In the end, things worked out for the next few years. However, in hindsight, that near-disaster was merely a warning sign of things to come.
