David Montgomery Was NOT Happy With His Madden Rating

-

Madden remains the dominant football franchise is the video game community. Even if it’s undeserving of it (that’s right I said it, come at me). One of the most popular parts of its release each year is the fabled Madden player ratings. Where every single name on a roster receives a numbered rating based on projections. Veterans always love to see if they’ve improved at all. Rookies on the other hand? It is a good way to gauge how the wider public views them. Suffice to say David Montgomery learned something.

Something he wasn’t too thrilled with.

The NFL had several of the most prominent rookies from the 2019 draft class appear on a segment for Madden where they received the full layout of their ratings. Some of them were just fine with what they got. Others felt it could’ve used a few tweaks. Obviously with the numbers all going up. Montgomery on the other hand? The perception of his own personal rating and the actual one were wider than the Grand Canyon.

He admitted he sees himself as a 93 overall. However, he had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t the same for the game makers. Sure enough, he was taken aback when they handed him his sheet that listed a 71 overall mark. The rookie only needed a few words to sum up his thoughts.

“Oh this is all types of disrespectful.”

David Montgomery had a particular problem with one area

Truth be told, the overall rating isn’t that bad. Not compared to the rest of the rookie class. For example, Kyler Murray was the #1 overall pick. He received a 73. For Montgomery to be selected later in the 3rd round and have a rating just two points less than the top draft choice in the entire class? That should send a signal the Bears did indeed get themselves a steal.

What really seemed to rankle the young running back though was a specific section of his rating list. The one in regards to his pass-catching skill. This was revealed in him literally turning to the guy running the interview and asking with a dead serious expression, “What passes you see me drop?” It’s a fair point. Montgomery didn’t have any notable drops during his two years as a starter at Iowa State.

It should be fun to watch him set about correcting that rating for the future this coming season.
